The problem

The city’s tourist information was scattered and out of date, and keeping a portal alive takes a newsroom an independent guide does not have.

Who it is for: Visitors to Cabedelo, Brazil, and local advertisers.

What the system does

A PHP portal with an interactive map and a visitor itinerary with no sign-up, plus a panel that automates the heavy lifting: the newsroom collects sources, removes duplicates and queues everything for review; the radar finds businesses on OpenStreetMap, Wikidata and the city guide; photos come from Wikimedia Commons with licence and credit.

What the screen is made of

Every screen above depends on decisions like these, made in the code and covered by tests.

Part Decision
Collection Never copies article bodies or third-party photos; short notes stay out of the search index.
Open sources One Overpass query with a 15-minute cache, because the public service rejects back-to-back queries.
Licences Author and licence of every photo recorded and shown to visitors, as Creative Commons licences require.
Honesty Star ratings and invented testimonials from the original template were removed; ratings now require a source.
